Cookie Policy
Last updated: 8 April 2026
At a glance. Essential cookies are always on (they’re required to log in and remember your consent). Analytics and preference cookies are only set if you opt in via our consent banner. You can change your choice at any time. For how your data is processed, see our Privacy Policy.
1. What Are Cookies and Similar Technologies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. Alongside cookies, SafeSkin uses other client-side storage technologies — localStorage and sessionStorage — which behave similarly but are only accessible to the website that sets them. Together these allow the Platform to recognise you between requests, keep you logged in, remember preferences, and collect anonymised usage insights.
In this Policy, any reference to “cookies” includes localStorage, sessionStorage, and similar technologies unless stated otherwise.
2. Legal Basis
We use strictly necessary cookies without consent, as permitted under the ePrivacy Regulations. All other cookies and similar storage (analytics, preferences, marketing) are only set after you opt in via our consent banner, in line with the Irish Data Protection Commission’s guidance and the EU ePrivacy Directive. You can withdraw consent at any time (see section 6).
3. Categories of Cookies We Use
3.1 Strictly Necessary (always on)
Required for the Platform to function. These cannot be disabled through our consent banner; if you disable them in your browser, parts of the Platform will not work.
| Name | Set by | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| sb-*-auth-token | Supabase | Authentication session | Session |
| sb-*-refresh-token | Supabase | Session refresh | Up to 1 year |
| safeskin_cookie_consent | SafeSkin | Stores your cookie preference | 1 year |
| __stripe_mid / __stripe_sid | Stripe | Fraud prevention during checkout | Session / 1 year |
3.2 Analytics (consent required)
Help us understand how visitors use the Platform so we can improve it and provide Clinic Owners with anonymised aggregated insights. Only set after you accept analytics in the consent banner.
| Name | Set by | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| safeskin_session_id (localStorage) | SafeSkin | Anonymous session identifier for platform analytics | Session |
| safeskin_session_data (localStorage) | SafeSkin | Tracks session context (landing page, page count) | Session |
| safeskin_visit_count (localStorage) | SafeSkin | Counts return visits (no personal data) | Persistent |
| _ga, _ga_* | Google Analytics (if enabled) | Distinguishes visitors, session state | Up to 2 years |
SafeSkin’s own analytics record page views, search behaviour, clinic profile views, and button clicks, linked to a random session identifier and not to any personal identifier. Where Google Analytics is enabled, we configure it for IP anonymisation and disable advertising features.
3.3 Preferences (consent required)
Remember your preferences such as favourites, recently viewed clinics, compare selection, search radius, and list/map view. Not essential, but they make the Platform easier to use.
| Name | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| sessionStorage: favourites | Saved favourite clinics | Session |
| sessionStorage: recently_viewed | Recently viewed clinics | Session |
| sessionStorage: compare_selection | Clinics selected for comparison | Session |

5. Do Not Track
We currently do not respond to browser “Do Not Track” signals, because no common industry standard has been agreed. You can manage your cookie choices using our consent banner or your browser settings.
6. Managing or Withdrawing Consent
You can change or withdraw your cookie consent at any time by:
- Clearing the
safeskin_cookie_consentcookie in your browser, which will re-trigger our consent banner on your next visit. - Adjusting your browser settings to block or delete cookies generally. Note that disabling strictly necessary cookies will break Platform functionality.
- Emailing us at [email protected] if you would like help.
